Review: Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto

See all sizes of this photo on Flickr.

After reading so much about the Pilot Hi-Tec-C pens from various sources, I just had to go out and try one myself. Instead of one though, I went with three, in the form of the Hi-Tec-C Coleto. I never thought I would like using a multi-cartridge pen, but this Coleto is really great. I will be using this pen a bunch, and will probably try out different tip sizes, ink colors, and models of the Coleto barrel.

You've discovered the Hit-Tec-C. Congratulations and welcome to a new world where nothing is as it seems, where you can expect the unexp…

Ahh, have fun with the pen. I have the same one. I'm addicted to it.

I thought I could stop with the three cartridges I had here, but I bet I've bought 10 more since then, plus new barrels too of course! I've got it bad.

Greetings from Malaysia.

I just discovered the Pilot Hi-Tec-C. I really like that I can choose the colour of the inks. I ended up with purple, blue and black. I can see myself buying another one to be filled with three other colours. And they would be so much easier to carry - just 2 instead of 6 individual colour gel pens. And it writes well on Moleskine notebooks, too. Do you know if it's available in 0.7? I got the 0.5, but would prefer the 0.7. Thanks.

I have yet to see the Hi-Tec-C in the 0.7mm width, but I will keep my eyes
peeled. I too thought I would be able to stop after just a few colors, but
they are really addictive!

I believe the Zebra Sarasa comes in 0.7mm, but I don't think the cool colors are available for the Sarasa Multi-pen.

In my opinion, there is a fundamental difference between Coleto version and the original Hi-Tec-C (one pen per colour) version....

The original Hi-Tec-C is more needle like and has 1 or 2 mm needle thick more than the much shorter Coleto...

I think the difference have promot my fond of the original version over Coleto, but has been using Coleto only due to its multicolour ability.

I just bought this pen from ebay (the shipping to Canada was cheaper than jetpens)... two barrels with 7 0.3 mm refills of various colours. I am a very big fan so far: the ink flows nicely and the colours are vibrant. Next time I buy refill, however, I think I will go with a thicker size. 0.3 is nice to have in my planner where sometimes I have to cram a lot of info in a small space.
